I’ve reviewed the Brighton Fringe Festival brochure and agonised over a few date clashes, but overall, I am pretty happy with my final selection. I will be in the audience at the following and I plan to post a review or two afterwards.
The Maydays – Confessions (Improv)
Well known Brighton improv troupe. Confessions is their new show, I am intrigued!
Nat Tapley (Stand Up)
I want to find out more about this guy, as I’ve heard good things about him from one of The Maydays.
The Noise Next Door (Improv)
A improv troupe who have been going a while and I am yet to see them.
Haymarket Masterclass (Talk)
I’ve wanted to attend a few of these talks by profilic members of the theatre community for a long time but travelling to the The Haymarket in London made it tricky, now they are coming to Brighton, it’s a definite for me.
Funny Women – Awards (Comedy)
A big brand in the Comedy industry. I like so many of the performers who’ve come into the public eye via Funny Women awards (Ruth Bratt, Sarah Millican, Katy Schutte).
Clowning Around with Luisa Omielan (Improv)
Luisa has recently returned from IO Chicago – the home of improvisation. As I’m planning to go over next year, I thought I’d check her out.
The Moon Inside You (Film)
A documentary about menstruation. Brilliant, never seen one of those before. Also love the title/concept of this film.
Brighton Goes Gospel (Music)
I nearly joined Brighton Goes Gospel back in 2009 but I couldn’t really commit the time, so it didn’t happen. I was hugely impressed by the standard at the rehearsals I did attend. I missed out on their last concert as it was sold out, so I’m getting in early this time.
Doug Segal – I Know What You Are Thinking (Mind Reading/Comedy)
Mind reading is not generally my thing, but I’m happy to try something new, I’ll let you know what I think!
Cabaret Whore (Cabaret)
A review of this show from the Edinburgh Fringe said it was ‘intelligent and unforgettable comedy’. I’m really interested in character comedy, so this is up my street.
Spymonkey Cabaret (Comedy/Cabaret)
I’ve heard brilliant things about Spymonkey, a company who teach clowning and physical theatre/comedy. I know one or two funny people who’ve attended training with them. We are promised a pole dancing Joan of Arc and a mermaid who can’t get pregnant, how on earth can I say no to that!
So, that’s what I’ll be doing in May. Hope you have a fantastic time at the festival!
